Well

I am failing miserably at this blog stuff. I think I bit off more than I could chew with everything else I have going on like ... um... life.

Between work, sick kids, birthdays, school, and getting my real estate license I haven't had time to breathe let alone keep any of these goals like I had planned. Hopefully I can catch up on them and not fall so far behind that I fail.

I have to remind myself to be patient. I can do it...one step at a time.

2010... not resolutions but goals

I want to track myself. Make myself accountable to... well, myself. If I track my progress I have no one to blame but me and I can come back and see where I have failed. Come along with me won't you? Granted this won't be anything as enjoyable as those wonderful cinematic adventures, but hey, it should be interesting none-the-less.

So lets get to the goods...

  1. Stop listening to other people and make my own opinions, this is in regards to not only the simple things like movies and books, but people and life experiences
  2. Spend more time on me. I find that I was spending a whole lot of money, but not enough time. If I don't find myself interesting, attractive, or respectable why would anyone else?
  3. Start Running. I have always wanted to be a runner, I find myself envious of people in my neighborhood that I see running early in the morning when it is quiet and calm.
  4. Reach intermittent fitness goals. This will be an ongoing struggle for me. I will be posting separate sections for most of these goals.
  5. Read at least one book a month. Off to a great start so far!
  6. Take a class for hobby (or to reach other goals) at least every other month. In the least, these classes will include: Piano, photography, and Bikram yoga. All three I have always wanted to do but haven't.
  7. Realize that I am responsible for my own happiness.
  8. I do not want to recognize myself mentally, physically, or emotionally in a year.

I already have some catching up to do. So here I go!

Late Night Television and the old VHS's

Remember when we only had like 8 stations to choose from but that didn't matter? There was always something worth watching, and remember when mom and pop would rent a movie at Albertsons and it was the event of your whole week? I used to rent Disney shows, no not movies, SHOWS meaning that these were the shows I could probably catch on Saturday morning cartoons, but this one was special because MOM RENTED IT FOR ME~!

Then "Showtime" or whatever it was called came around. No I am not talking about the channel I am talking about the HUGE movie rental store that used to be in what is now a payday loan and rent to own furniture store off of 5400 South and Bangarter (before Bangarter existed). It was so nifty in there with the red lighting and the big movie screen that was always playing something good. I didn't even care that it took my Mom like 6 hours to figure out that she wanted to rent Pete's Dragon or The King and I. I even still remember the smell of that place, not quite sure what it consisted of other than popcorn, candy, film, and plastic.

Now we have a magical red movie vending machine. Which, by the way, seems to take FOREVER. I know I know, it only takes a few minutes, and its better than traveling the million miles of movies ever made from A to Z on foot (poor me). Which also brings up another point, why can't Blockbuster be consistant? In one store A starts on the right, and in another it will start on the left. CONSISTANCY PEOPLE. Movies are now rented by simply swiping a card and waiting for it to spit out. You can even pre-reserve the movies you want online so that you poor tired souls out there (like me) will not have to worry about waiting and then not getting the third installment of an overly done trilogy. OH, and the sweet miracle movies can be returned to any red miracle movie vending machine, so that I don't have to be inconvenienced by having to return it to the SAME place. Beat that Blockbuster! Booyah. Sweet baby jesus, what will they think of next? If they could just make the DVD's right there, so they are NEVER out, that would be SWEET... all in time grasshopper.

I miss the thrill of the film getting caught in the top loading VCR. Remember that thing? Mine looked something like this:

That was the shit! Now I am sitting here watching one of the three movies I picked up from that miracle movie vending machine on my multiple use PS3 / blueray disk player / wireless internet access web browser gaming console, which my children will tell there children about, as their kids roll their eyes and plug in their thumbtack sized digital player and have the movie appear magically in front of them.... you all know what I am talking about... pulling out the star trek memories (the NEXT generation of couse)... pepsi should have advertized on that shit... or maybe they stole it from Cpt Paccard...those biotches.

Summer is coming...

It is amazing. Birds sing to me, the sun shines on me, the breeze blows so nicely through my hair, and the geese don't chase me at Liberty Park. All is right in the world. The reason for this? SUMMER IS COMING!! Everyone and everything cannot be upset when the world is so beautiful outside. Anyone who says that winter is the best season is obviously lying, or they really like WHITE. C'mon now, if you had a white piece of paper and a box full of hundreds of crayons, would you really leave it white....NOOOOOO......

This last weekend was beautiful, it was warm and sunshining. My grandparents had a yard sale so I went down for the semi-annual event, and the Elmen tradition of "yard sale doughnuts" before I had to start my diet again yesterday. I went shopping with my daughter and niece and I never realized how much fun it would be to watch two girls try on hundreds of dresses at target. They were so happy just to play dress up. I couldn't resist. I had other errands to run, but none of them were important enough to cut this experience short. They twirled and turned and tried and retried dresses on until they couldn't stand it anymore (I think we actually just ran out of options). I bought them each their favorites, and my niece a birthday present. We then proceeded to Chick-fil-a, which ended up being a huge disappointment. Food was better when I was younger. Best time I have had in a long time.

Sunday was spent making drapes and just chilling. I had to start school again Monday and I literally did not want to do ANYTHING. I made one of my best friends some drapes for his new home, I hope he liked them as much as I did. If anyone knows me, they know how happy I get by giving or doing things for other people. That feeling is the best. Its better than any gift or thing that could be done or given to me. Something inside me needs to be needed and appreciated. I want to be that one friend or family member that everyone feels like they can count on. I tend to over obligate myself at times, not taking time for the things I want to do, but all in all I would rather improve others lives than my own. I hope that this is how I am remembered, and that this will be my legacy.

I miss my Mom. I am sad that I can't just see her when the mood hits me. I have learned that I need to appreciate all of my family more, because I WILL and DO miss their presence in my life. All in all it was a wonderful weekend full of family, friends, and SUN!! YAY!!
